Arbitration in Thailand has established after Arbitration Act B.E. 2530 (1987) has came into force in B.E. 2530 (1987). Arbitration is a process of commercial dispute resolution which is simple, fast and less expensive. It will assist reduce cases that brought to the court so that judicial proceeding in general has been developed.
The government was well aware of the importance of arbitration so the establishment of Thailand Arbitration Center has been one of the essential and necessary policies. The standard of arbitration in Thailand has to improve to meet international standard in order to be the center of arbitration. Recently arbitration has been well-known worldwide as it has been used to resolve the dispute between cross-border parties. Furthermore, the establishment of Thailand Arbitration Center is a preparation on dispute resolution process for Thailand, as a member of ASEAN in B.E. 2558 (2015), in order to be the center of arbitration in ASEAN.
Thailand Arbitration Center (THAC) is established subject to the Act of Arbitration Center B.E. 2550 (2007). The purposes of THAC are to support and promote the international system of arbitration, to become a center of arbitration known widely for stipulating independent services on arbitration and to improve arbitration center in Thailand in order to meet the same standard as arbitration institutions in other countries.

THAC History

THAC’s location is in the center of Bangkok, allowing easy and convenient commutes for everyone. Full facilities are provided - conference rooms, projectors, audio systems. Also, the service fees for arbitration and mediation offered at the institute are relatively reasonable.
Flexible, Credible and Efficient
THAC offers a variety of dispute settlement modes, which cater to the needs of widely different parties. As an institute set up by a virtue of the government legislation, credibility and stability in its operations are guaranteed. All staffs, both arbitrators and mediators are well-trained for effective case management with high complexity and diverse languages. THAC uses highly trained and experienced arbitrators and mediators from many different professions selected from the THAC panel to assist in resolving dispute.
Impartial and Internationally Accredited
THAC is the institution established under the Thailand Arbitration Institute Act, B.E. 2550 (2007), guaranteed in its independence in all case management and flexibility according to its Rules that always meet international standards.
“THAC Executive Committee” comprised of Permanent Secretary for Justice as the chairperson, the Attorney General, the Secretary-General of the Office of the Judiciary, the President of Thai Chamber of Commerce, the President of the Federation of Thai Industries, the President of the Thai Bankers’ Association, the President of the Lawyers Council of Thailand, President of the Council of Engineers and President of the Architect Council of Thailand and 5 experts appointed by the Cabinet. The Committee shall oversee the performance of THAC which the Managing Director (Mr.Pasit Asawawattanaporn) shall administrate any undertakings of THAC under the supervision of the Committee. The Managing Director shall have the duty to manage THAC in accordance with legislation, rules, regulations and Committee’s decision.
With a vision to facilitate strategic development and providing advice and profound guidance on important issues regarding alternative dispute resolution, Thailand Arbitration Center takes an initiative to establish the International Advisory Board (IAB). The prime focus of the board should be providing guidance in order to achieve relevant targets, policy, and program issues of THAC. The IAB is made up of prominent international arbitration and mediation experts with extensive leadership experience, drawn from a variety of academic and professional disciplines.
