Atlético appeals to CAS in an attempt to suspend “Trippier” ban
The British Football Association (FA) fined £ 70,000 and ordered a 10-week ban after finding that Kieran Trippier, the defender of Atlético( The Bears) involved in gambling. Previously on December 23, 2020, the FA’s independent regulatory commission has investigated and decided that Kieran Trippier violated Rule E8 (1). The Rule prohibits any state players from betting on football or disclose to a third party any confidential information that could lead to gambling. The decision handed Kieran Trippier a ban from all matches for up to 10 weeks and a £ 70,000 fine (about 2.7 million baht). As a result of the ban, this England’s standout performer will miss out on all matches until February 28, 2021. He will not be able to play in the match between Atletico Madrid and Chelsea at UEFA Champions League, including the Champions League last-16 first leg in the mid of February. He will also miss 11 games on the Liga stage with Getafe, Alaves, Athletic Bilbao, Sevilla, Eibar, Valencia, Cadiz, Celta Vigo, Granada, Levante, and Villarreal, as well as the Copa del Rey game with Cornella.
According to Marca’s report, “Atletico Madrid are still considering running with Kieran Trippier in the first team. Although the 30-year-old defender is banned by the English Football Association for 10 weeks from the allegation of football betting, the Bear (Atletico) will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against the ban.”
Despite all that, Atlético Madrid is preparing to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to lift the ban or try to minimize the ban duration as much as possible.
