3 measures to help employers, employees, self-employed and unemployed people facing COVID-19
• Reduce contribution rates – Employer’s contribution rate is reduced to 4% for 3 months (March-May 2020) – Section 33; self-employed person’s contribution rate is reduced to 1% for 3 months (March-May 2020) – Section 39; unemployed person’s contribution rate is reduced to 1.8% for 3 months (March-May 2020)
• For March-May, Sections 33, 39 grant 3 months extension of time for employers, self-employed and unemployed to pay contributions March’s payment 2020, will be paid within 15th July 2020 April’s payment 2020, will be paid within 15th August 2020. May’s payment 2020, will be paid within 15th September 2020.
• Increase benefits in case of unemployment, effective from 1st March 2020 onwards
* Employees not allowed to work, quarantined for 14 days due to close contact with a COVID-19 infected person, will receive unemployment payment of 50% of wage up to 180 days
* Government agencies ordered the suspend the businesses temporarily, receiving 50% of the unemployment rate for a period not exceeding 60 days. And increase compensation for loss of income in the case of unemployment as follows
* Employee resigning receive unemployment payment in the amount of 45% of wage for a period not exceeding 90 days (enforced 2 years)
* Unemployed receive unemployment payment in the amount of 70% of wage for a period not exceeding 200 days (enforced 2 years) This assistance and measures have been approved by the Cabinet and the Ministry of Labor (MOL) will issue announcements and ministerial regulations to enforce them as soon as possible.
