THAC and TNSC sign an MOU to resolve disputes with shippers
On July 22, 2020, from 13.30 to 15.00 the Thailand Arbitration Center (THAC) led by Ms. Matchimdhorn Khampiranont, acting on behalf of the Director of the THAC together with Ms. Kanyapak Tantipipatpong, the President of the Thai National Shippers’ Council, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Ballroom, 3rd Floor, Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel, Bangkok.
With the aim of disseminating knowledge and information about Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) to be more recognized since the shipping business is an international contract, which in many disputes inevitably arises from contracts. ADR, whether arbitration or mediation, is a dispute resolution mechanism that is cost-effective and time-saving, maintains commercial relations between the parties, as well as provides a clear, established and internationally accepted dispute resolution model.
THAC expects the signing of this cooperation will help the Thai National Shippers’ Council (TNSC) to serve as a medium for encouraging shippers to adopt ADR, which will be a tool that also helps push the business of shippers to become more flexible
At the same time, Kanyapak Tantipipatpong, Chairman of the Thai National Shippers’ Council, stated that “The Collaboration of the THAC and the Thai Shippers’ Council of Thailand (TNSC) is cooperation to promote academic support, such as cooperation in alternative dispute resolutions, training, seminars, academic conferences, human resource development and academic activities related to alternative dispute resolutions; encourage the exchange of information or knowledge related to alternative dispute resolutions, and to promote and support public relations for alternative dispute resolutions to the shippers”
