THAC met with DBD to discuss signing MOU to jointly promote ODR in the future.
On April 22, 2021, Thailand Arbitration Center leading by Mr. Pasit Asawawattanaporn, Managing Director of Thailand Arbitration Center, met with the Director-General Department of Business Development, Mr. Thosapone Dansuputra, to introduce alternative dispute resolution both offline and online as an option to help resolve the dispute effectively. They were also discussed in promoting and supporting cooperation in the implementation of an alternative dispute resolution in the future at the Department of Business Development, Ministry of Commerce
Online Dispute Resolution or ODR is an appropriate alternative, especially in the current circumstance as traveling during the COVID-19 pandemic poses a risk of infection. As such, THAC has developed a system to migrate from an offline to an online platform to support public needs. By integrating with technologies, it enhances the services so that it is quick, convenient and spontaneously available as per request. This also helps reduce traveling expenses along with the risk of infection during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The discussion between Thailand Arbitration Center and the Department of Business Development, Ministry of Commerce (DBD) went by smoothly. DBD also expressed their interest in using alternative dispute resolutions by arbitration or mediation both offline and online, as it provides a quick and convenient approach that is also efficiently help resolving disputes for DBD. ODR also helps drive DBD forward to an organization that alleviates the limitations and helps the public gain easier access to DBD’s services. Nonetheless, after the discussion, THAC hopes that both organizations can officially sign an MOU in the future and jointly promote and elevate an alternative dispute resolution to an international standard.
